Artist Bio

Rhonda is a native Oklahoman who has only recently returned to Oklahoma.  She grew up on a cattle ranch in rural Georgia and later worked as a high school educator and administrator for twenty-seven years.  After receiving her doctoral degree in 2004, she and her father decided to move back home to Oklahoma, where they settled in Stillwater.   When people ask, “Why Stillwater,” Rhonda just says that Stillwater seemed like a good choice because it was central to the various locations of members of her extended family.

Making jewelry became a passion for Rhonda after watching someone make a pair of earrings and deciding, “I think I might like to do that.”  After reading many, many books, articles, etc. on technique, and after a great deal of trial and error, constructing, taking apart, and reconstructing, she began making jewelry for friends and herself.  When her gifts became sources of joy to the recipients, she felt a sense of gratification and personal pride in her art.  Now Rhonda spends a great deal of time in her “bead room” where she still constructs, takes apart, and reconstructs until she gets the finished product to look exactly like the picture she has in her mind, the picture being a beautiful piece of jewelry that she hopes someone will enjoy wearing as much as she has enjoyed creating.
