"My paintings reflect a personal response to the natural world. Impressions of wildlife and birds are captured in oil or acrylic medium on canvas or paper. The study of animal behavior, along with extensive travel to nature preserves, national parks and painting in plain air, brings 'life' into each composition. Working from my own reference photographs and experiences while creating field studies often inspire paintings that 'tell a story'.
Since early childhood art has been an evolutionary unfolding. The first oil painting at age 8 was a forest scene with a pathway. There were no animals or birds in the first attempt. My career as a fine art painter has focused on featuring wildlife in their natural environment. Often, the eyes appear to follow the viewer in my realistic renderings. They speak volumes without uttering a sound.
Our pets are special to us and capturing their personality in a painting is a pleasure. Good fortune has allowed me to accept numerous commissioned art projects including a series of exotic big cat paintings for a corporate client in Houston. Recent images have also included western figures and commissioned celebrity entertainers. In November 2009, my first sculpture, a Blue Marlin, was completed for a water treatment chemical company in Louisiana. Gallery and museum shows, teaching workshops, jurying exhibitions and giving painting demonstrations are included each year...It is a continuous part of the evolutionary journey as an artist.
Creating art is a way of expressing awe of the world of nature. My goal is to share the beauty that inspires me with those who enjoy the wonders around us."
