“In the presence of nature, I am filled with awe of being a small part of God’s perfect landscapes and his daily blessings of beauty.”
Bio
Native Oklahoman Helen Boren paints mostly Oklahoma and Southwest landscapes. Her work is exclusively in oils. Helen was born on her grandparents farm in South Central Oklahoma and began drawing at an early age. Although no art classes were available in her school, she maintained an interest in art as she pursued other goals. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, she taught high school in Ponca City, Oklahoma for many years.
She began painting as an opportunity to pursue a creative outlet and instantly fell in love with oil painting. She received solid basic training with Ponca City artist Maxine Weaver. Working with Ms. Weaver inspired Helen’s desire to accomplish as much as possible although this training began later in her life. To increase her skill, she seeks workshops at every opportunity. Much of her work is her interpretation of scenes she experiences in her travels with her husband, an avid fisherman.
Helen has studied in workshops with artists such as Mike Larson, Sherri McGraw, Margaret Kessler, Wayne Cooper, Rick McClure, Judy McComb, Michael Albrietsen, Michael Bingham, Gaye Faulkenberry and Kathryn Walker Richardson. Helen’s work has appeared in many local shows and the Fine Arts Institute in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Statement
“In the presence of nature, I am filled with awe of being a small part of God’s perfect landscapes and his daily blessings of beauty. In my painting I try to convey, in the language of color, this emotional experience. The beauty of our region is always challenging me to learn how to portray what words are difficult to describe. I would like my viewers to feel a greater appreciation of the world around us.”
Helen’s work has appeared in many local shows and the Fine Arts Institute in Edmond, Oklahoma.
