Artist Statement

" Suspense, split-second timing, drama, unexpected waves of pleasure, plot twists, surprise and intrigue .... how many times have I given up on watercolor, only to have a sudden flash of hope from an idea that flashes through from behind that wall of frustration?  My paintings follow their own will and I don't know how they will turn out even when I have an idea of what I think I want, which I don't always have. What I do as a teacher is demonstrate techniques and lead students step-by step thru  simple compositions and try to interest them in mastering this addictive form of art."  In 1971, Armstrong was certified to teach art K-12. She taught art in Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Colorado, Florida and Oklahoma. Starting in 1988, Mrs. Armstrong has taught watercolor at the Ponca City Art Center 12 years.  In Ponca City, she also taught art part-time in private schools until 2001.  She started doing local and regional art shows in 1985 on the weekends and has continued to exhibit in shows up to the present day, even though Armstrong has cut down on the number of shows.
