How it Works

Selling Your Art
All art is for sale while it is under contract with us.  Simply Oklahoma charges a monthly display fee and receives a commission off each piece sold here in the gallery.

Payments to Artist
All payments will be made via check within 30 days of purchase payment clearing.

Art Pricing
Artists must assign their own retail prices based on what their art is currently selling for and commit to being consistent with this pricing throughout their own marketing.

Exclusivity and Other Galleries
Simply Oklahoma does not require exclusivity. Artists are free to promote their art as they see fit.
However, while under contract no you can not exhibit within 15 miles of the Simply Oklahoma facility.

Artist Guidelines

Style and Content
SO Art needs a variety of art styles. We want to provide art that is thought provoking as well as art that is uplifting, or soothing in its feel. The content can be 'edgy' but it needs to be appropriate for a professional setting.

Sizes and Media
We want wall art in a variety of sizes and media. Larger works are preferred more often in office settings and homes more appreciate medium size works. We accept works of all sizes.

Framing and Finishing
Art must be delivered to us framed and ready for hanging. We prefer simple and unembellished frames that fit a variety of decor. We much prefer that pieces that need glass use plexiglass, to limit the potential for breakage in transport and handling.
Large Photos can be printed on gator board with no glass, preferably with a simple frame.
Stretched canvas paintings are acceptable without a frame if they are on a deep gallery canvas that has sides with no staples showing. Paintings on gallery canvases must be completed either with the art's imagery wrapping around the edge OR with the edge painted a solid color such as black or payne's gray.

How to Submit

We prefer emailed images or a CD with images in Jpeg format. Please send six or more samples with artist statement/artist bio to simplyoklahoma@yahoo.com.
Mail CDs (PC compatible) or color copies with artist info to: Simply Oklahoma c/o Carie Robison, 108 S. Division, Guthrie, OK 73044. Please do not send slides, or originals. Submissions will be kept on file and not returned.
It is not necessary to have all the images prepared for print and web to submit for review. However, if accepted, each artist is responsible to give us digital files that allow us to make a printed media.
We do not charge the artist an admittance fee, but it does cost us time and money to create the promotional materials for print and web, so we need to start with workable images. If the artist is unable to provide digital print images, we cannot represent them. Special circumstances may be considered.
We need each image to be a digital file that is at least large enough to print a 5" x 7" reproduction at 300 dpi. We prefer the size of 8" x 10" @ 300 dpi. We will format the images for our website from these higher res images you send.

For each image, please give the following information:
• title
• size of original (not including frame)
• description of framing or other finishing the piece has.
• medium used to create the piece (such as pastels or oils)
• a short description of the piece

Include a short biography, an image of you and your artist statement.
Putting a person and a face with an image makes the art appreciation process for our clients much easier. Please include a photo (or a reasonably accurate self portrait!) that represents you for our online promotions. Let us know of any awards, professional recognition or articles written about you and your art. Tell a little background like where you were raised and educated and what brought you to be an artist in Oklahoma. Please tell something about yourself and why you create the art you do. A few hundred words is all we need.

Tips on Taking Your Own Digital Pictures

The best way to take your own pictures of your art is to do it outdoors on an overcast day. This eliminates the glare issue from either the sun or a flash. If you’re in a pinch for time, and a clear day is all you’ve got to work with, take the photos in full shade, and adjust the colors in Photoshop later – it is much better than having a glare spot from the sun.
Set the camera to take images with the highest quality (highest dots/pixels per inch: dpi/ppi) setting.
Put the art on an easel as straight up and down as possible (perpendicular to the ground) and have the camera on a tripod. If you don’t have a tripod, put the camera on something that will hold it stationary. Take the pictures as straight on and square to the art as possible, and filling the image area of the camera’s view with the art as much as you can. This helps to eliminate backlighting or color balancing interference from the background.
When the images are brought into a program like Photoshop, even with careful setup, it is likely there will be some distortion of shape. In other words, the rectangle shape of the art will become somewhat of a trapezoid that will have to be straightened out. To do this in Photoshop, first select the image with the top left rectangular select tool, so the image is surrounded with ‘marching ants’. Next, go under ‘edit’ into ‘transform’ and choose ‘skew.’ This will allow you to drag the lopsided corners up to a square position.

Print and Web Image Guidelines if your art is accepted
We need these two versions of your imagery, as we are creating an in-hand portfolio to present to our clients AND an online presentation. It is easiest if you can put these images on a PC compatible CD disk.

PRINT: We are creating an 8.5” x 11” folio with a two or four page-spread presentation for each artist AND a single artist sheet with highlighted art and a short bio. For this we need images around 5”x7” or a bit larger at 300dpi.

WEB: Also, we need the same images for our website. We will produce these images: one large for the enlarged view online, and one small for the thumbnail view.
