Artist Bio
Annette Sinesio received her Masters Degree of Fine Art from the University of Oklahoma in spring 2000. Formal studies in ceramics, her area of specialization, began in 1988 while she was a student at Jersey City State College in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Raised in rural Oklahoma, Ms. Sinesio returned to Norman, Oklahoma from New Jersey in 1992 to complete her undergraduate studies and to attend graduate school. Ms. Sinesio obtained her Bachelors Degree of Fine Arts from the University of Oklahoma in 1955. Her professional activities include teaching, exhibition and sales of original art. Her exhibition record includes numerous local festivals and galleries including the Kirkpatrick Gallery at the nationally recognized Omniplex in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was chosen to participate in the Art in Embassies Program sponsored by the State Department of the United States.
As an artist and teacher of art Ms. Sinesio has taught in both her home studio and local arts education venues such as the CityArts Center in Oklahoma City, The Firehouse Art Center in Norman and The University of Oklahoma. In addition she has maintained a presence in several area galleries including Tribes Gallery and The Firehouse4 Art Center.
While in attendance at Jersey City State College Ms. Sinesio worked as an assistant in the sculpture studio, the computer lab and the slide library. Her studies included drawing, jewelry making, advertising design, ceramics and weaving. During this time she held a secretarial position in the college's Women's Center where she also served on the advisory council.
Prior to attending college Ms. Sinesio lived and worked in New York City. Her experiences there included working as a paste up artist, a jewelry fabricator and a legal receptionist. Ms. Sinesio's interest in the way things work and how things are put together led her to study the building and construction trades. She participated in several apprenticeships and training programs and with her skills in a variety of areas acquired a job with the City of New York. Previous to her employment there her community activities led to the formation of several successful tenant organized housing projects and community gardens in New York City's Lower East Side.
After receiving her Masters, Ms. Sinesio worked with The Art Factory located in the Art Box in north Oklahoma City. She worked with disadvantaged and at risk youth teaching art classes. These experiences along with others inspired her to begin Outreach Through the Arts. Through this organization Ms. Sinesio curated numerous art exhibitions, co-hosted many spoken word events at The Art Box and served on the poetry Committee of Individual Artists of Oklahoma.
Ms. Sinesio recently retired from teaching Visual Art in the Oklahoma City Public Schools and relocated to Eufaula, Oklahoma where she is working in her studio, renovating her house and gardening full time.
